Peco Power began at Wits University under Professor Willie Cronje, with a simple conviction: energy is the foundation for growth. With support from Umbono Capital and other partners, we transformed research into real-world solutions — launching the PowerBrick™ and pioneering a model that puts communities at the centre.
Peco designs and manufactures modular green energy solar powered PowerBrick™ electrification solutions that grow with families and businesses. We do this through our centralised production facilities and our network of independent community-based Champions to deliver community solutions that improve quality of life and empower local Kasi economies.
In Nomzamo (Mpumalanga), more than 400 households were electrified, 60 streetlights installed, and 10 small refrigeration businesses launched. Families paid less than they spent on candles and paraffin on a rent-to-own basis, fully owning their systems within just 12 months.
